When I first photographed this family (you can see some of the images on the wall in these first two pictures), I was let in on a little secret…this mama was pregnant with her second! Newly along in her pregnancy, I would have never guessed without her sharing. It was so fun to do a session the following year as a family of four <3

I have to admit, being able to follow up with my birth clients to do a newborn session is one of my favorite things! Partially so I get to snuggle their sweet babe and soak in all that newborn goodness. But more than that, it’s such a beautiful way to continue to document their journey into parenthood and spend time seeing how they’re doing now that they have a little +1.

Here’s a look at my morning with this sweet family…

One thing that I can always count on, regardless of how many births I have attended, is that there is endless room to be surprised.

Baby Hallie arrived within an hour of her parents being admitted to the hospital. You might think, that’s not too shocking…mama must have been pretty far in her labor. Well, I’ll have you know she was 5cm when she checked in (which is fantastic, to clarify)…and then delivered an hour later! 5cm to 10cm, just like that!

How’s that for a first time mama?! I was and still am so proud of her! So grateful I got to be there to support her as a doula <3
