The sun was starting to peek it's way out behind morning clouds as I exited the freeway. I pulled up to the hospital, grabbed my bags, and walked through the familiar hallways heading to labor and delivery. My mind flashed back to a similar moment, 2 years ago, when I made the same walk, at nearly the same time, to document this mama's first birth. AND RIGHT THEN, I KNEW IT. I RESPONDED IN ALL CAPS, "UMMM ARE YOU PREGNANT?" PAIRED WITH A HEART-EYED EMOJI, OF COURSE.

She was, in fact, pregnant; 8 weeks and 1 day to be exact. My heart swelled with happiness. One of my dear friends was embarking on the windy road to parenthood, and I was excited to hold space for her along the way. The months cruised along...summer turned to fall, and fall turned to winter. Before we new it, the new year was upon us! Those first two weeks of January we all anxiously waited for any signs of labor.
