Lippke Family // Brooklyn Family Photography
I hopped off the subway in Williamsburg and began the same 10 minute walk I had made many times before. While I used to take a couple of side streets to avoid foot traffic, this time I happily walked down busy Bedford. Nathan was with me, so along the way I would share little memories of places & coffee shops and take note of the things that have changed over the years. It was crazy how much it all felt like home.
As I got to Ira's I couldn't help but feel nervous...I was about to photograph one of my photography mentor's family, after all! But as I walked into the studio, their home, my mind was flooded with memories from when I interned for Ira, and my nerves seemed to slip away. It was hard for me to believe it had already been 3 years. It felt like it had been just yesterday and yet so much has changed within that time! Ira and his lovely wife Andrea started their family, and with that new chapter they decided to buy a home in the country and relocate the studio to Chelsea.
These pictures came at such a great time seeing that they moved a little over a week later. It was so fun to spend the day with them capturing what their lives were like during this period of time. Ira said it best when he called this session a little time capsule to look back to.
I'm so grateful for the opportunity to photograph such a special time for Ira, Andrea & little Rye. And for the chance to see the studio space one last time for a little goodbye (I will miss that place)! Although, I look forward to checking out the new Ira Lippke Studios in Chelsea!
Here's a little bit from our day together...
